HeartCode for BLS and ACLS

Course Description

HeartCode is a self-directed, comprehensive e-learning program from the American Heart Association. HeartCode is an alternative to classroom-based BLS and ACLS training. It has two parts:

  • Part 1 is the online knowledge portion of the class. You must pass the Part 1 test before you can advance to Part 2.
  • Part 2 is the skills check-off, which is done in a structured environment with a certified BLS or ACLS instructor.

Learn more about HeartCode through our job aid (.pdf) or by visiting the American Heart Association's website.

Prerequisites

  • Prerequisites for each class are the same as for the instructor-led BLS and ACLS classes.
  • Carilion employees: If you previously completed a BLS or ACLS course and are renewing your certification, your cards must be current to use HeartCode free of charge. If your card expired (it expires the last day of the month listed) and you choose to use HeartCode, you will be responsible for paying for the course through payroll deduction.
